NICE — The 22nd annual Tut Harville Beef Barbecue takes place Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Boathouse in Nice.
The Buster Jones Ranch and the Boathouse sponsor the fundraiser for Upper Lake High School athletics. Cost of admission is $12 for adults and $6 for younger than 12.
Started in 1991 by Tut Harville, a local athletic booster, and David Robinson of the Harbor Restaurant, and with the help of former Upper Lake athletic director and longtime coach Craig Kinser as well as local rancher Buster Jones, who still does all the barbecuing, the event has raised almost $100,000 for Upper Lake”s sports teams down through the years.
While Harville and Robinson have since passed away, Kinser and Jones are now co-chairmen of the fundraiser. Lou Hibben and Kathleen Sullivan of the Boathouse now provide all the support for the event while current Upper Lake athletic director Sandy Coatney heads the high school support group.
