LAKE COUNTY — Thrive Lake County is starting a network of investors to create a more just and sustainable economy. An introductory event takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 25 at the Lakeport Senior Center, located at 527 Konocti Ave. in Lakeport.
According to Carol Cole-Lewis, Thrive Lake County project coordinator, today”s Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules prevent people from investing privately in a business opportunity unless they are already in relationship with the owner of the enterprise.
In several cities, supporters of the local economy movement have found a way to help people meet SEC rules by bringing them into relationship via social and educational gatherings called Local Investing Opportunity Networks (LION).
At a LION gathering, local residents come together to socialize, get acquainted and to meet local entrepreneurs.
According to Cole-Lewis, new opportunities for local investing naturally arise out of these relationships.
There will be a $5 charge to cover the cost of refreshments, which is payable at the door.
