FORT BRAGG — A man sustained fatal injuries late Monday night after the car he was driving struck a power pole.
According to Officer Brandon Smith of the California Highway Patrol, the man, who was not identified, was driving a black Toyota Prius in the area of Simpson Lane, east of Franklin Road. Smith said the car sustained damage consistent with a crash.
Based on his investigation, Smith said the car exited the roadway for unknown reasons, crashing into a power pole. The crash caused the power pole to collapse onto the car, leaving exposed power lines laying on the roadway.
Smith said the man sustained fatal injuries when he got out of his car and made contact with the exposed wires.
The crash is still under investigation.
