LAKE COUNTY — A head-on collision Monday on Highway 20 by the Cache Creek Bridge closed the road and sent four people to the hospital.
William Warwick III, 50, of Arcadia was driving a 1997 Toyota 4Runner and waiting to make a left turn into the Cache Creek Recreation Area at approximately 1:14 p.m. Monday, according to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) news release.
Andrew Barket, 25, of Harrisburg, Pa. was driving a 2000 Toyota 4Runner eastbound on Highway 20 at approximately 65 mph with passenger David Duff, 21, of Dauphin, Pa., approaching the area where the 1997 Toyota was located.
Douglas Hume, 34, of Citrus Heights was driving a 2010 Ford Expedition with passengers Stephanie Hume, 31, also of Citrus Heights, and Joyce Hume, 60, of Elk Grove.
According to the release, Barket did not see Warwick and turned to the right to avoid a collision with the rear of the SUV. Barket passed Warwick on the right side before making a turn to the left.
According to the release, Barket”s left turn caused the vehicle to re-enter the eastbound lane of the highway before continuing into the westbound lane, where it collided head-on the 2010 Ford Expedition driven by Hume. Following the head-on collision, the 2000 Toyota collided with the 1997 Toyota driven by Warwick.
Hume sustained major injuries in the crash and was transported by air ambulance to U.C. Davis Medical Center. Stephanie Hume sustained minor injuries and was transported to St. Helena Hospital, Clear Lake. Joyce Hume sustained minor injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Duff sustained minor injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
The crash is still under investigation by CHP Officer R. Jensen.
