KELSEYVILLE — A detached garage was destroyed in a fire Friday night just outside of downtown Kelseyville.
The incident started a few minutes before 9 p.m. behind a home on State Street.
The homeowner was outside the garage, saw smoke and found the wall inside the garage on fire, according to Joe Huggins, battalion chief for the Kelseyville Fire Protection District (KFPD).
A friend of the homeowner was grinding a bolt while inside the garage at the time, Huggins said.
Five race cars, related equipment, fuels and other liquids were inside the garage, Huggins said.
No injuries were reported and the house was not damaged. A carport behind the garage was exposed and several items underneath it were charred.
Crews contained the fire in about 45 minutes, Huggins said. The garage was destroyed.
Three KFPD engines and one Lakeport Fire Protection District (LPFD) engine responded. The California Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control.
