CLEARLAKE — A man died Sunday after he allegedly attempted to break into a residence on the 14000 block of Lakeshore Drive.
The Clearlake Police Department (CPD) identified the man as Randy Robinson, 30.
No arrests were made in relation to case; however, the investigation is ongoing.
According to the CPD, at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Danne Petras, 32, was asleep inside his Lakeshore Drive home when he heard someone attempting to break in. As Petras approached the front door, Robinson allegedly entered the residence through a door he forced open.
Sgt. Tim Hobbs said a struggle ensued between Petras and Robinson. During the confrontation, Robinson reportedly suffered several injures and became unresponsive.
A neighbor who heard the commotion called the police. When officers arrived, they contacted Petras in front of the residence and located Robinson on the floor inside the home.
Lake County Fire Protection District responded to the scene, and Robinson was transported to St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake where he was pronounced dead.
“At this time, it appears Petras acted in self-defense and he was justified in using force to protect himself while in his home,” Hobbs said. “As is standard in this type of case, once the investigation is complete, it will be sent to the District Attorney”s Office for review.”
Hobbs said Petras sustained several injuries during the struggle, and was later treated and released at the Clearlake hospital.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact CPD Det. Ryan Peterson at 994-8251.
