UKIAH — The best of Lake County”s senior crop of baseball players will be on display Wednesday during the fourth annual North Central League I Senior All-Star Baseball Game.

First pitch is 4:30 p.m. at Mendocino College in Ukiah. While there is no admission fee to the game, donations are encouraged to fund future All-Star competitions..

This year”s game features the teams of the NCL I East (all the Lake County schools) against teams of the NCL I West (Cloverdale, Fort Bragg, St. Helena, St. Vincent, Willits).

Lou Poloni, head coach at Kelseyville, will manage the East squad and be assisted by Middletown”s Mitch Tucker, Clear Lake”s Zane Jensen and Lower Lake”s John Miller.

Among the Lake County senior who have committed to the game are Stone Phillips, Steven Edwards, Chad Elliston and Oren Ruffcorn of Clear Lake, Dustin Thaxton, Zack Bailey, Dalton Gunther, Juan Huarte, Devon Call, Max Huff and Aaron Gonzales of Kelseyville, Luis Martinez of Lower Lake and Kyle Brown of Middletown.

Thaxton is the reigning NCL I co-MVP (see All-NCL I baseball graphic on this page) after posting a 6-2 record with 75 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings for the Knights this season. He also was among the team”s top batters with 24 hits, including three triples.

Clear Lake”s Phillips led the county in hits, doubles, triples and RBI.

Unlike regulation high school games, the All-Star contest is contested over nine innings.
