LAKEPORT — Carolyn Ruttan of the Lake County Department of Water Resources will speak about the Lake County Mussel Prevention Program, 6 p.m. June 20 at Lakeport Library, located at 1425 N. High St. in Lakeport.

Photography workshop for teens

LAKEPORT — Lakeport Library will present a free photography workshop for teens on June 13 at 6:30 p.m.

As part of the library”s teen summer program, “Own the Night,” professional photographer Nathan DeHart will present a slide show called “A How-to on Night Photography” and talk about telling stories through photographs.

DeHart, who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography is a photographer for the Lake County Record-Bee and is also a freelance photographer.

Teens will be able to sign up for “Own the Night” on June 13 if they haven”t done so before.

Teens enrolled in the summer program are invited to submit photos with the theme “Own the Night to the library”s photo contest.

Book sale in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN ? Friends of the Middletown Gibson Library is having its semi-annual book sale during Middletown Days, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16 at the Middletown Library.

A grocery bag full of books will cost $5 and paperbacks will cost $3 per bag. Books for sale include best sellers, children”s books, mysteries, spy novels, romance, cookbooks, self-help, reference and audio books.

Some selected quality books will be sold individually. Proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase new books and learning materials for the new library.

The sale is in need of volunteers to help with set up at 7:30 a.m. and with take-down at 4 p.m.

Setup involves moving boxes of books on hand trucks to appropriate tables, setting up tables, tent awnings, signs and general help. The 4 p.m. crew does all of the above in reverse.

Anyone who can help with setup or take-down is asked to show up at either time.

Steampunk craft workshop

LAKEPORT — A steampunk craft workshop for teens takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. June 23 at Lakeport Library.

The workshop is offered as part of the library”s teen summer program, “Own the Night.” The workshop is free and all supplies will be provided to create a pin to wear or attach to a book bag.

According to Jan Cook with the Lakeport Library, steampunk jewelry grew out of steampunk literature, briefly described as Victorian science fiction with steam-powered machines.

Steampunk jewelry combines parts and pieces of antique timepieces, skeleton keys and small brass findings for jewelry with an industrial look.
