LAKE COUNTY — The Lake County Superior Court is considering several changes to its scheduling structure, including moving weekly criminal calendars from the Clearlake courtroom to the Lakeport courthouse.
“As a result of continuing budget cuts, and subsequent staff reductions, it is necessary for the court to restructure calendars to cope more effectively with these challenges,” Presiding Judge David W. Herrick wrote in a statement released Friday.
The proposal would shift misdemeanor and felony calendars currently held in Clearlake to undetermined courtrooms in the Lake County Courthouse in Lakeport, effective Aug. 6.
Small claims, unlawful detainers, traffic and Title IV-D child support matters would be heard in the Clearlake branch.
All traffic and non-traffic infractions, small claims matters and unlawful detainers for the county would be filed and heard in Clearlake. Title IV-D filings and staff would remain in Lakeport but all hearings would take place in Clearlake.
The court is accepting comments about its proposal. All public input should be submitted to Mary E. Smith via email at mary.smith@lake.courts.ca.gov or by calling 263-2262. The deadline is June 19.
People can view the plan at the court clerk”s office. It may become available on the Lake County Superior Court website later this week.
