KELSEYVILLE — A local food forum is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kelseyville High School”s cafetorium.
The food forum is co-hosted by Health Leadership Network, Department of Health Services and University of California Cooperative Extension, funded by a specialty crop block grant from the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).
This is an opportunity to learn more about the Lake County food system, the Farm to School program in the Kelseyville Unified School District and to hear from featured speakers with expertise in various areas related to development of local food systems.
Keynote speaker is Deputy Secretary Jim Houston, from the CDFA, who will explain state and federal policy trends and changes and local implications for farmers and consumers.
Dr. Preston Maring, initiator of Kaiser Permanente”s farmers” markets, will explain how use of farmers” markets increased people”s access to local produce. Shermain D. Hardesty, Ph.D., UC Extension economist, will give an overview on issues relevant to Lake County”s local food system. Roberta Cook, Ph.D., UC Extension marketing economist, will speak on barriers and opportunities to the marketing of fresh produce.
