Collegiate county

HIT: The Marymount College Board of Trustees approved an agreement with the Lake County government last weekend for the development of a college campus at the Lucerne Hotel.

HIT: Construction of the new Mendocino College Lake Center in Lakeport remains within budget and on schedule for a January opening, school officials said Tuesday.

Refusing to help decoys

HIT: Lakeport Police Department reported that all seven adults solicited by decoys refused to buy alcohol for the underage people during operations on June 8. Additionally, all six city businesses approached by decoys declined to serve them alcohol.

Taking responsibility

HIT: Middletown High School graduation organizers took responsibility for fireworks that were displayed without advance notice to the community. A letter of apology was sent to this week to the local media, indicating that the display had been intended as a surprise to the graduates and that, in future, organizers will keep in mind that people and pets might be bothered by the noise. Congratulations for setting a fine example for youth about taking immediate responsibility for your actions.

Power supply

HIT: The Power to the Youth event provided an array of activities for area youth and their families Saturday in Clearlake. The event offered sporting competitions, live music provided by youth from the county and resource information.

MISS: Technical difficulties with the electrical supply occurred during the event.

HIT: Volunteers worked cooperatively to fix the electrical problem and continued with the event.

Trapping plan approved

HIT: Lake County Board of Supervisors approved a work plan Tuesday for trapping services in the county. The action was supported by area ranchers.

HIT: Lake County Board of Supervisors announced the interim appointment of Matt Perry as County Administrative Officer, thus allowing Kelly Cox a well-deserved retirement. Thank you for all you have done for Lake County.

Farm-fresh produce

HIT: Thanks to several grants to assist Lake County families in purchasing fresh, wholesome and locally grown produce directly from farmers, Lake County Farmers” Finest is accepting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program at its market locations: 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays at Steele Wines, located at 4350 Thomas Drive in Finley; and 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays at Library Park, 200 Park St. in Lakeport. Customers may swipe their electronic benefit transfer cards at the information booth in exchange for tokens to be spent at the market on all fresh food items and food plants.
