CLEARLAKE — The body of a boy who was considered missing following a failed water search Thursday was located Friday morning.

Clearlake Police Department (CPD) Detective Ryan Peterson did not disclose the teen”s name because the investigation is ongoing.

However, the mother of the boy was in contact with Record-Bee editorial staff on Thursday night.

She identified herself as Norma Collins. Collins told editorial staff her son”s name was Mathew Scott, 17, a student at Lower Lake High School. She said Scott was developmentally disabled.

Clearlake Police responded to the 12000 block of Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake Thursday following a report of the missing boy.

According to Peterson, upon officers” arrival witnesses said the boy was swimming with friends in the area.

Peterson said witnesses reported last seeing the boy standing in the water near the shoreline of Clear Lake and at some point later, it was discovered he was not in the area.

Family and friends began searching and the mother contacted law enforcement.

CPD officers responded and a search was under way. Peterson said the teen suffered from mental health disorders and epilepsy and had a history of wandering.

The Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) Boat Division was requested by CPD and assisted with the search of the water.

“A search of the water and surrounding areas showed no leads as to the whereabouts,” Peterson said.

On Friday morning a dive team from Northshore Fire Protection District continued a search of the area where the boy was last seen.

Peterson said during the search a body matching the description of the missing boy was located and the teen was determined to be deceased.

Anyone with information is asked to call Peterson 994-8251.
