BLUE LAKES — Highway 20 in the Blue Lakes area was shutdown for approximately 30 minutes Saturday because of a two-car collision that sent three people to the hospital.

Frederico P. Ramirez, 25, of Lower Lake was driving a 1996 Ford Taurus westbound on Highway 20 at around 1:55 p.m., with passenger Maria Ramirez-Sepulveda, 47, of Clearlake, according to Officer Curtis of the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Margaret F. Ward, 90, of Clearlake was driving a 2009 Honda Fit eastbound on the highway, approaching Ramirez in his vehicle. Curtis said Ward allowed her car to travel into the opposing lane while traversing through a moderate curve in the roadway, directly into the path of Ramirez.

Curtis said Ramirez attempted to stop the vehicle, but was unable to avoid the collision. Ward”s car collided with the left side and front of Ramirez”s vehicle, causing major damage to both vehicles. The highway was closed for 30 minutes for emergency personnel on scene to evaluate injuries.

Ward sustained numerous lacerations to her head and arms, according to Curtis. She was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Ramirez-Sepulveda, who was not wearing a seatbelt, lost consciousness and was suspected of sustaining a head injury. She was also airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Ramirez sustained lacerations to his head and arms and was transported via ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital.

The collision is under investigation.
