MIDDLETOWN — The Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) Narcotics Task Force located a marijuana grow site in the Middletown area Monday during an overflight mission.
The purpose of an overflight is to seek out probable illicit marijuana growing operations, according to LCSO Sgt. Steve Brooks. He said detectives observed a grow site located in the area of 20000 Big Canyon Road, which appeared to contain more than 100 marijuana plants, with a travel trailer parked in close proximity to the plants.
Narcotics detectives and members of Lake County Code Enforcement responded Tuesday to the grow site to determine if the marijuana grow was within compliance.
Brooks said they contacted Gregory Ceda and Cheryl Danforth, who allegedly claimed ownership of the marijuana grow. Detectives reportedly located 62 growing marijuana plants and an additional 50 plants, which were just harvested in a light-depravation-type grow.
Ceda and Danforth were allegedly in possession of approximately 25 pounds of processed marijuana. Danforth reportedly said they were not harvesting the grow, but were cutting it down to be in compliance.
Brooks said Danforth and Ceda relinquished all of the marijuana on site to the LCSO for destruction. No criminal charges are pending.
Code enforcement “red tagged” the property because of improper electrical wiring to a well and also “red tagged” the travel trailer because of fluids leaking from the trailer into a creek, Brooks said.
