LAKEPORT — Scott Butler officially became the eighth postmaster of Lakeport last week after he was sworn in by Manager of Post Office Operations Tony Carvelli in a small ceremony attended by colleagues and family.
Butler was appointed to the position in August 2011.
Following the ceremony, Butler said, “My family has stood behind my decision and has made the move with me to the City of Lakeport. We are happy here and I have no plans on going anywhere else.”
Butler”s goal for the Lakeport Post Office is to continue the great service provided by previous postmaster Dana Tibbetts, who retired in 2011 after serving the community for 26 years.
“The previous postmaster, along with Supervisors Elliott Colon, kept this office running very smooth,” Butler said. “I feel lucky to have been able to take over such a nice office and plan to continue where Dana left off.”
Butler joined the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk in the Laytonville Post Office in 2000. He quickly moved up the ranks and was most recently postmaster of Redwood Valley before arriving in Lakeport.
In his spare time, Butler said he enjoys coaching his children”s sports teams and will continue to do that in Lakeport. He relocated to the city in January after residing in Willits since 1995.
Butler is responsible for more than 4,570 deliveries. With 16 employees, he serves 10 carrier routes and 1,540 P.O. Boxes. The Lakeport Post Office was established in 1933.
