LAKE COUNTY — Tickets for “Congress, You”re Fired” will go on sale in July. Tickets will go on sale effective Sunday at Watershed Books, 263-5787; Lakeport Senior Activity Center, 263-4218; and the Meals on Wheels Thrift Store, 263-6174; in Lakeport. Tickets will also be sold at Shannon Ridge Tasting Room, 998-9656; Live Oaks Senior Center, 998-1950; and the Moose Lodge, 998-3740; in Clearlake Oaks.

Cost of the performances will be $20 for two dinner shows and $12 for the show, a full-length musical, alone.

According to show director Suna Flores, “We decided to keep production costs down with a do-it-yourself approach.”

Writing the stage play and music eliminated the cost of rights to do the show.

Because of the Summer of Piece in Lake County, Flores decided to write a comedy that incorporates a peace theme into frustration with the behavior of U.S. Congress. “Congress, You”re Fired” was born.

Flores then enlisted the musical expertise of Paul Kemp to create a rock ”n” roll sound for the cast of 16 singers and dancers. “Randy Hare, another great musician, and also a character in the “Congress” production, created a soundtrack for the show from Kemp”s music. That allows the show to be wild, happy and portable!” Flores said. “This is a low-cost, no-cost way to put together a musical. When we got the music, we were on our way!”

“Congress, You”re Fired!” will open at 7 p.m. July 27 at the Clearlake Oaks Moose Lodge, located at 2284 Highway 20. Performances continue with a dinner show at 5:30 p.m. July 28 and at 2 p.m. July 29. During the following week, performances take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 3, 5:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and 2 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Lakeport Senior Activity Center.
