CLEARLAKE — The 55th annual Redbud Parade and Festival Saturday begins at Redbud Park and takes place down Lakeshore Drive to Austin Park at 11 a.m.

A daylong festival of activities, vendors, music and fireworks at dusk follow the parade. The Clearlake Police Department (CPD) issued a public advisory urging citizens to act responsibly.

Lt. Tim Celli said an inundation of calls to the CPD dispatch about start times of the parade and fireworks show bog down the phone lines often making it difficult to call into the police department for emergencies or other business-related services. Use 9-1-1 for emergencies only. The business lines should be used for police business only.

Parking often presents an issue because of the high volume of vehicles and pedestrian traffic. People should prepare by allowing extra time to find parking. It may reduce the frustration and anxiety some people experience when dealing with large crowds.

Celli said alcohol tends to attribute to problems during the holiday weekend. “We would like to remind everyone that public intoxication laws will be enforced, so please be responsible and please do not drink and drive.”

Alcohol other than in the designated and permitted vendor area is not allowed in city parks and glass containers are prohibited.

“We would also like to remind everyone that other than the permitted fireworks show, fireworks are not allowed in the city of Clearlake and enforcement action will be taken,” Celli added.

Independence Day festivities are a busy time for emergency services. There will be extra personnel working with additional assistance from other agencies including traffic enforcement from the California Highway Patrol.

“By following the laws and promoting mutual respect, we believe everyone can have a safe and fun holiday weekend,” Celli said.
