LAKEPORT — For the second year in a row, the Lakeport Grocery Outlet will hold a month-long charity event in July known as, “Independence from Hunger.”

“Each year we review the many great charity organizations in our surrounding community and choose one group to partner up with for a full month of collecting donations,” April Hansen, marketing, arts and event coordinator for Lakeport Grocery Outlet, said. “It was a hard decision, however this year we have partnered with Redwood Children”s Services.”

From July 1 to 31, Lakeport Grocery Outlet will accept donations of food items as well as cash donations at the register. Donors will be entered into a drawing to win a Grocery Outlet gift card, which will be drawn and announced at the beginning of August.

Hansen said that pre-made bags containing food items totaling less than $5 will be available for purchase and immediate donation.

A car wash and information booth will be set up on July 21 to help raise funds and awareness about Redwood Children”s Services” youth programs and services.

Lakeport Grocery Outlet has provided a list of items that are needed for the various programs and areas of Redwood Children”s Services.

Items needed by the youth empowerment camp include: granola bars, fruit snacks, small snack size bags of chips, lemonade mix, fruits and vegetables (grapes, melons, celery, carrots, etc.) ranch dressing, cheeses (variety), crackers, rolls, flip flops and sunscreen.
