CLEARLAKE — The city of Clearlake will participate in the General Municipal Election in November to fill three seats on the Clearlake City Council. The seats are open for the full term of four years.

The candidate filing period opens on July 16. Candidate packets will be available in the City Clerk”s Office at Clearlake City Hall located at 14050 Olympic Drive. Candidates are encouraged to call the City Clerk”s office at 994-8201, ext. 106 to schedule an appointment time convenient to the candidate”s schedule. The packet disbursement process takes about an hour.

The filing period closes at 5 p.m. Aug. 10. However, City Clerk Melissa Swanson said if one or more incumbent council member does not file for re-election, the filing period will be extended to 5 p.m. Aug. 15.

If no one or only one person is nominated for each elective office, appointment to the elective office may be made as prescribed by Section 10229, Elections Code of the State of California. The section allows for the appointment to office of a person nominated for the position or appointment to office of an eligible elector if no one has been nominated.
