LAKEPORT — City police believe a break-in reported early Thursday morning was related to a fight that happened downtown nearly an hour earlier.
Units were dispatched to the Clearlake Club on North Main Street at about 1:45 a.m. on a report of fight in progress, Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said in a statement.
Upon arrival, officers located a 28-year-old Nice man down on the street with an apparent serious head injury, Rasmussen stated.
The man, whose name was not released, was transported down the street to Natural High School and then airlifted by REACH to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, the chief added.
Meanwhile near the bar, officers observed a “hostile” crowd of at least 65 people on the street and sidewalk, Rasmussen said. The Lake County Sheriff”s Office and California Highway Patrol sent backup.
The investigation caused the closure of two blocks of North Main Street for about 45 minutes early Thursday.
Officers have identified one possible suspect for the alleged battery with serious bodily injury but have not made any arrests, Rasmussen stated.
A little more than an hour after the fight call came in, officers were dispatched to Sixth Street to investigate a reported break-in.
Rasmussen stated that officers were familiar with the home and knew the occupant was associated with the downtown fight.
First responders found four men and one woman in the area of the residence and two other people inside the home, according to the chief. The home had a broken window, he added.
Though all of those people were uncooperative, officers developed information indicating the reported break-in was “directly related” to the earlier fight, Rasmussen stated.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
