LAKEPORT — The Lake County Board of Supervisors (BOS) will hold a public discussion about a proposed interim marijuana cultivation ordinance Monday morning at the Lake County Fairgrounds.
The item was set for the June 26 BOS meeting but was carried over to a new date and venue after a beyond-capacity crowd of several hundred people arrived at the Lake County Courthouse that afternoon.
As a result, the BOS decided to postpone the marijuana discussion and move it to 9 a.m. Monday in the Little Theatre Building at the fairgrounds on Martin Street in Lakeport.
The supervisors will consider a proposed urgency measure to adopt a temporary law that, as currently drafted, would ban commercial medical marijuana cultivation as well as all growing on vacant properties.
The proposal would also limit outdoor cultivation to three mature female or six immature marijuana plants on parcels smaller than half an acre, and six mature female or 12 immature plants on lands half an acre or larger, accessory to an approved residential use.
Collective or cooperative organizations consisting of qualified patients and primary caregivers could grow as many as 36 mature female plants on parcels of at least five acres, while also adhering to other rules.
Any violator could receive a fine, jail time or both.
Community Development Director Rick Coel described the ordinance draft as a “starting point for the board to amend as they desire.”
