KELSEYVILLE — A fire broke out between a vineyard and Adobe Creek Friday during the clean up of a property.
The fire, which was first reported around 2:30 p.m., burned between three-quarters of an acre to an acre, according to Capt. Jim Dowdy of the Kelseyville Fire District (KFD).
Dowdy said the fire was started by people using a metal-cutting grinder on a property they were cleaning up. The people attempted to extinguish the blaze, but it got away from them, according to Dowdy.
KFD was in command of the incident and sent one engine and a water tender. Dowdy said CAL FIRE responded with two engines, a helitack crew and a battalion chief. Lakeport Fire Protection District responded with one engine and a water tender. A privately owned water tender was also utilized. Dowdy said between 20 to 25 personnel total responded to the blaze.
He said the wildland portion of the fire was extinguished quickly, but a large amount of tires on the property caught fire, which sent black smoke into the air and took longer to extinguish. Dowdy said the fire was contained within 20 minutes and mop up took an additional two hours.
