CLEARLAKE — A Clearlake man sustained minor to moderate injuries Wednesday when the Dodge pickup truck he was driving overturned next to the lake. The dog in the truck died.
The man was traveling eastbound on Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake Park at 12:21 p.m. when for unknown reasons he allowed the truck to exit the right shoulder of the roadway. It continued down a slight embankment before it overturned on a rocky beach just west of Plumas Street.
Lake County Fire Protection District (LCFPD) responded with medical and rescue units. Minor extrication was required to remove the man from the truck. He was transported by ambulance to St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake for medical treatment.
LCFPD Chief Willie Sapeta said diesel fuel was leaking from the truck. However, a HazMat incident was not necessary and no fuel released into the lake.
Volunteers in Policing (VIPs) assisted with traffic control. Traffic was detoured until 1:37 p.m. Clearlake Police Department is investigating.
