KELSEYVILLE — A “Peace Meal and Hootenanny” takes place Aug. 18 at Lakeside County Park near Kelseyville as part of the Lake County Summer of Peace.

Everyone is invited to this free event. A potluck picnic begins at 5 p.m. followed by an old-fashioned musical sing-along that will continue until about 9 p.m. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on. Glass containers are not allowed in the park.

A “hootenanny” is a folk-music party, according to event coordinator Linda Guebert. “There”s something very special about singing with other people, especially when you”re singing about things that really matter, like peace and social justice,” Guebert said.

The hootenanny will feature a number of Lake County musicians including Jim Williams, Carl Stewart, Don Coffin, Sue Condit, Bill Bordisso, Bill Barrows, the trio Three Deep, Dennis Purcell, the duo Not Two and others.

“I”m very excited about participating in the Hootenanny,” Stewart, who is the lead singer of the acoustic band Blue Collar, said. “I”m especially pleased that my daughter Emma and her friend Raylana Aragon will be singing with us. It”s great to have young people involved.”

This event is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County. For more information call 279-4272.
