LAKE COUNTY — The Southshore Senior Boys posted 11-0 and 12-3 victories over Cottonwood Saturday and Sunday to claim the Section 2 title in Chico.
The south county squad moves on to the Northern California State Championship this weekend in Benicia.
The team, which consists of 15- and 16-year-olds, won the Little League District 2 tournament held in Marysville June 7 and 8 to earn entry into the sectional tournament in Chico.
“Most of this team has been together since they were 10 years old. This is their third time winning district and the first time finally winning sections to move on to state,” coach Jim Peters said.
“They are playing great. Most of the team is the Lower Lake High School varsity baseball team, and they really know how to play well together. They are representing their community admirably,” Peters added.
The team is scheduled to take on the Section 1 winner at 4 p.m. Saturday in a double-elimination tournament.
The winner of the tournament will move on to the Western Regions Championship in San Bernardino.
The team consists of James Clark, Jamez Conatser, Ryan Dahneke, Tony Fonseca, William Isaacs, VJ Lopez, Tony Jones, Josh McCarty, Jake Peters, Zef Roofener, Trevor Yellowboy and Dillon Yellowboy.
Jon Duncan, who is also a Lower Lake High School varsity baseball player, is assistant coach, and the team manager is Troy Isaacs.
