COW MOUNTAIN — A Willits man sustained moderate injuries after a motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon in the Cow Mountain Recreation Area.
James Calcagno, 35, rode his KPM 350 off-road motorcycle uphill at 40 to 45 mph on Buckhorn Road south of Scotts Creek Road at 12:30 p.m. when his front tire struck a rock and he was thrown off the bike, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Calcagno suffered a broken ankle and was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, according to the CHP.
