By Elle Collins —
I would like to use this column not as a means to rant, or even to rave.
It”s more my style to tell a story, a story worth repeating.
I would also like to make the most of this opportunity to give readers a glimpse into the private lives of the public personas we are so accustomed to seeing.
Each week readers will either be introduced to a private person who has decided to make a public statement, or a public image who will allow readers a glimpse into their private life. So, without further ado, let the introductions begin.
I”ve never been particularly good at introductions, nor talking about myself, which may come as a shock to those who know me.
Though I consider myself to be an outgoing person, a communications major and completely comfortable speaking in public, actually having to write a column about myself is a totally different matter.
What do I say to not sound presumptuous? How do I speak about myself without appearing narcissistic? I wish I could tell you, but to be truthful, I have no idea.
What I can tell you though, is what every reporter should be able to regurgitate only moments after happening upon a story: the facts.
My documented name is not Elle, but for publication purposes it may as well be. I graduated from Upper Lake High School in 2010.
My biggest accomplishment while attending was becoming the editor-in-chief of the yearbook, a position I would someday like to hold in an occupational sense.
I am currently attending Mendocino Junior College and am expected to receive my AA in communications this fall.
I intend to further my education at Sonoma State in the spring of 2013.
Though communications is my major, my passion is for writing, namely creative writing.
I am relatively new to the reporting side of writing and it is certainly an experience. I have written several 10-minute plays and am currently working on a novel, which is proving to be a long process indeed.
I intend to make a career of writing, whether it be by way of being a novelist, reporter, speech writer or otherwise.
Another important aspect of my life, which I believe should give reader”s some perspective into why I”m writing this sort of column, is my son.
I have a 3-year-old son who is my miniature linguist, an avid storyteller himself and my day to day inspiration.
It is his presence, which ties my heart to this county and the people in it. It would be my honor to introduce you to some of these remarkable people in the weeks to come. Thanks for reading!
