BAY AREA ? According to a Tuesday KRON 4 newscast, a search for victims of a convicted serial killer who is currently serving time in San Quentin is now focused on the Cow Mountain area of Lake County, among two other locations.
Wesley Shermantine Jr. along with Loren Joseph Herzog are believed to have killed and disposed of victims bodies in mine shafts and rural hillsides, wells and in trailer parks.
A map drawn by a Shermantine led authorities to burial sites, where the discovery of human remains has the potential of putting to rest multiple unsolved missing persons cases.
In February the Huffington Post reported that “investigators estimate they have recovered more than 300 human bones of varying sizes — as well as coats, shoes, a purse and jewelry ?” in San Joaquin.
Shermantine and Herzog were called the “Speed Freak Killers” because they were allegedly fueled by methamphetamine.
Shermantine was sentenced to death in 2001 for murders dating back to 1984. Shermantine remains in prison while Herzog committed suicide recently.
A new law signed by the Governor will allow Shermantine to go to the three sites to show authorities where the bodies are buried.
