LAKEPORT — Jury selection concluded Thursday in the trial of a Lakeport man accused of killing another man nearly five years ago using information he obtained from California”s online Megan”s Law sex offender registry.

Ivan Garcia Oliver, 34, faces three felonies, including murder, in connection with the November 2007 stabbing death of Michael A. Dodele, 67, who was listed as a sex offender at the time.

Oliver pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied several special allegations in the case.

Jury selection began July 11 and 12, with two panels each day filling out questionnaires. Richard Hinchcliff, chief deputy district attorney, said in-court questioning of potential jurors began Wednesday. Hinchcliff said a final jury was selected by 10:15 a.m. Thursday.

Oliver is represented by defense counsel Stephen Carter. Judge Arthur H. Mann presided.

Hinchcliff said opening statements before the jury would begin Wednesday at 9 a.m. in Department 3, with witnesses expected to be called afterward.
