KELSEYVILLE — A woman and a child sustained minor injuries Sunday when the car they were traveling in went down an embankment and overturned.
Tabitha Martinez, 31, of Clearlake was driving a Ford Excursion northbound on Highway 29 north of Highway 175 in the Kelseyville area, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Martinez had two passengers, an 8-year-old and 7-year-old, both of Clearlake, whose names were not released because they are minors.
Martinez allowed the Excursion to travel onto the highway”s gravel shoulder, according to the CHP, when she overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. The Excursion rotated counterclockwise back across both lanes of Highway 29 and went off the west road edge down a steep embankment.
The Excursion then overturned and sustained major damage, according to the CHP. Martinez complained of pain to her left arm, neck and back. The 8-year-old minor sustained a small laceration to the left hand and complained of abdominal pain. The 7-year-old was not injured, according to the CHP.
Martinez was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital to be treated. Both minors were airlifted to Children”s Hospital and Research Center of Oakland.
One-way traffic restrictions were in place for approximately one hour following the crash, which is under investigation by CHP Officer S. Curtis.
