Supervisors” slam dunk

HIT: The Lake County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday to continue to comply with Brown Act requirements. We agree with board Chair Rob Brown that making a statement such as the affirmation vote is very important for the public”s sake.

MISS: To the state”s suspension of key provisions of the Brown Act that make advance notice “optional.” Absent successful recusitation of California”s open meeting law, hope that other governing bodies follow the lead of the Lake County Board of Supervisors and publicly declare themselves still subject to Brown Act requirements.

Unemployment steadies

HIT: Lake County”s unemployment rate remained unchanged in June but was more than 2 percent lower than this time last year.

MISS: With joblessness at 14.7 percent, the county ranks in the bottom quarter of the state.

Pills set for destruction

HIT: The Robinson Rancheria Boys and Girls Club prescription medication recovery program, which ended last week, resulted in nearly 54,000 pills and capsules being taken off the streets. They will be destroyed once a court order is obtained.

Monster show

HIT: The Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino Monster Truck Show was a hit July 20 and 21 at the Lakeport Speedway.

Trying times

HIT: Fifteen witnesses testified in the first two days at the trial of Ivan Garcia Oliver. Prosecutor Richard Hinchcliff said he hoped to conclude the trial by Aug. 31.

MISS: The trial was delayed nearly five years.

Took the money and ran

MISS: A burglary occurred last weekend at a Middletown bank. The person or people responsible are still at-large.

HIT: Law enforcement Monday made an arrest in a Lucerne restaurant robbery.

Talking taxes

HIT: The Lake County Board of Supervisors finalized language for a proposed sales tax measure for lake-related issues. A public hearing on the matter is set for Aug. 7.

Colorful county

HIT: Three more quilt squares were added to the Lake County Quilt Trail at locations in Kelseyville and Lakeport.

Conservation Congressman

HIT: Congressman Mike Thompson was honored by the Wilderness Society and other organizations for his work to protect public lands, including the Berryessa Snow Mountain area.

Investment in recycling

HIT: Thrive Lake County will address investment in repurposing of recycled materials during its quarterly meeting Monday at the Lucerne Community Clinic.
