I was astounded when I read in the Record-Bee that Russell Perdock was appointed to the Lake County Fire Protection District Board of directors.
First of all, in the article there was no mention of Perdock”s history as the ex-Lake County Deputy Sheriff who ran over a sailboat with his speedboat killing Lynn Thornton on Clear Lake, though it does mention his history in as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts.
From what I understand he is on trial along with multiple former and current Lake County employees, in federal court for Civil Rights violations in the case that was brought against Bismarck Dinius, driver of the sailboat.
We the people of Lake County will be paying for his actions, and the actions of many of the others who tried to protect Perdock.
Though there is no salary, there is some kind of stipend and other benefits that we will be paying to Perdock for being on a board of directors while he readily admits he has no knowledge or experience in firefighting. Because his mother was on the board for 16 years, does that make this a case of nepotism?
I, for one, am outraged at this appointment and the coverage in the Record-Bee, but then again I should get used to it since I”ve lived here 22 years now.
Can you hear the frustration in my letter? We the people of Lake County wanted change and we voted out Mitchell and Hopkins.
When the suit against Perdock is finally settled and we see the bottom line cost for this system, I hope real and permanent change will happen.
