LAKEPORT — Fire crews contained a blaze Saturday night that started on Westlake Road, jumped the Nice-Lucerne Cutoff and ultimately burned about 70 acres.

The incident started at about 4 p.m. Saturday and 25 mph winds helped the flames spread, according to deputy chief Pat Brown of the Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD).

No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported, Brown said. The fire did scorch about 30 acres near Rodman Slough and 4.3 acres of an area vineyard.

The NFPD, Lakeport Fire Protection District, CAL FIRE and an “in-county strike team” were among the agencies to respond, Brown said. Crews battled the fire from the air and on the ground.

“It was a really good effort. Everybody worked really well together,” Brown said.

The blaze stopped in the area of Robin Hill Drive. Containment occurred at about 9 p.m. Saturday, and the final crews left the scene at about 8 p.m. Sunday, Brown said.

The cause remains under investigation.
