UPPER LAKE — A man who allegedly ignited his underwear Monday sparked a small spot fire in Upper Lake.
The fire began at 4:25 p.m. along Highway 20 near the Super 8 Motel and was contained within minutes after burning about one-quarter of an acre, according to Chief Jay Beristianos of the Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD).
The man was reported to be a homeless man residing in the area. He allegedly set his underwear on fire and threw it in the grass to get attention, possibly after his cell phone stopped working, according to Beristianos.
NFPD is not planning to charge the man for the blaze, Beristianos said.
