LAKE COUNTY — An Upper Lake native was recently named the command master chief of U.S. Navy Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron VAW-123.
Scott W. Harville enlisted in the Navy in September 1989 shortly after graduating from Upper Lake High School. In July, Harville was deployed to the Persian Gulf to take part in the squadron”s mission there.
VAW-123 is also known as the “World Famous Screwtops,” flying E-2C Hawkeye airborne early warning radar aircraft from the USS Enterprise. VAW-123 is based out of Norfolk, Va.
According to a biography on the VAW-123 squadron website, Harville served with the Navy in Guam, Africa, the Mediterranean Sea, Hawaii, Washington and Virginia.
Personal awards for Harville include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four Gold Stars and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four Gold Stars. Harville also obtained numerous unit and service decorations.
