LAKEPORT — Police are investigating the reported theft of an “Indian basket” from the Lakeport Historic Courthouse Museum, located at 255 N. Main St.

Curator Linda Lake said the basket was missing on July 26 around 10 a.m. and first reported the theft to the Lakeport Police Department (LPD) later in the afternoon, according to LPD Sgt. Kevin Odom.

Odom said the exact time frame of the theft is being investigated and no further information about the investigation will be disclosed at this time.

The basket is approximately 6 to 8 centimeters in size. It is made from Mallard and Meadowlark feathers, Quail plumes and shell beads. The value of the basket is estimated at more than $1,000.

Odom said anyone with information regarding the basket”s whereabouts should call the LPD at 263-5491.
