MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown Community United Methodist Church (UMC) will offer monthly labyrinths for people who are experienced as well as novices. The labyrinth will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 11 at 15851 Armstrong St. in Middletown.

The Rev. Peggy Thompson, a Verditas trained labyrinth facilitator, will offer an introduction to the labyrinth as a spiritual tool at 5 p.m. Friday.

“Although there are no right or wrong ways to walk a labyrinth, certain practices can often help people connect more to the experience,” Thompson said.

Thompson has introduced more than 1,000 people to labyrinth walking. According to Thompson, there is no religious dogma attached to the labyrinth, so everyone is invited to try this spiritual tool no matter where they may be on their spiritual journey.”

A labyrinth is an ancient pattern of movement dating back 3,000 years. Labyrinths began being placed in Christian Churches around the 12th century. They have long been used by people of many faiths and people seeking a spiritual connect. The labyrinths are part of intentional faith development at Middletown UMC.
