LAKE COUNTY — Lake County Energy Watch (LCEW), a partnership between the County of Lake and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), has established a local tool lending library to assist residents of Lake County in being aware of their energy consumption.
The first tool the lending library is offering is the Kill A Watt EZ, manufactured by P3 International. This tool measures the energy consumption of any electronic device or appliance that can plug into a standard three prong 120-volt electrical outlet.
The Kill A Watt EZ allows residents to program in their local utility rate and display projected energy costs by hour, day, week, month or year. Additionally, it provides watts, kilowatt hours and volt amps data of the device that is plugged into it and can evaluate the quality of electrical power provided to a particular outlet by monitoring voltage, line frequency, current, and power factor.
The Kill A Watt EZ can help residents pinpoint which electronics and appliances are energy wasters.
The LCEW tool lending library is in the Lake County Community Development Department, located on the third floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St. in Lakeport.
The Kill A Watt EZ may initially be checked out for a period of two weeks and time extensions may be arranged depending on availability. Call 263-2221 and ask for Brian Horn, or email energy@co.lake.ca.us for details on reserving a Kill A Watt.
