HIT: The Lakeport City Council approved the Forbes Creek Neighborhood Improvement Study Tuesday evening. The report assessed conditions in the neighborhood and recommended ways to enhance the area. Any improvements would be subject to funding availability, review and future council support.

Feels like forever …

HIT: Judge Doris L. Shockley handed down a pair of lengthy sentences to the two men convicted of killing Skyler Rapp, 4, and injuring five others in June 2011. Orlando J. Lopez Jr. received 311 years to life in prison Tuesday, and Paul W. Braden got 312 years to life on Thursday.

Celebrity moves to the lake

HIT: The biggest boat yet launched on Clear Lake recently. The Rendezvous, a 53-foot yacht, spent much of the last 35 years on Nevada”s Lake Mead as the Las Vegas Hilton”s party boat for casino and convention guests.

HIT: Prior to launching on Clear Lake, the yacht was thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated. The yacht spent 34 years on Lake Mead, which has quagga mussels.

Irresponsible driver

MISS: A pickup truck was found abandoned Monday night on Soda Bay Road near Buckingham. The truck appeared to have crashed into the side of Mount Konocti, leaving a short trail of boulders and debris. No driver was found.

Fungus among us

MISS: Seasonal blue-green algae blooms on Clear Lake.

HIT: The County Health Department promptly posted precautionary advisory notices at public beaches at Clearlake”s Austin Park and Highlands Park.

Serving and protecting

HIT: Clearlake Police arrested a man Monday suspected of sexually assaulting a girl younger than 18. Police searched the city and found the man within hours of the reported assault.

Digital animal lost and found

HIT: A partnership between Operation Tango Mike and Operation Homefront offers free back-to-school supplies to military families. Ginny Craven will host a “shopping spree” from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Operation Tango Mike headquarters at Umpqua Bank, located at 805 11th St. in Lakeport.
