Nelson Strasser is one of my favorite letter writers. His letter on Monday prompted this reply.

Whether “life sucks”” without faith depends on the individual, as well as the object of that faith.

Most people prefer the comforting illusion provided by faith in some version of God.

We all live with faith of some sort in our lives.

For example, I have faith in my wife. That said, objective reality is indifferent to our emotional needs or beliefs. “It is what It is,” regardless of perceptions or beliefs.

If an absolute and profound faith insures that what is believed is true, then the Sept. 11 terrorists are currently in heaven, surrounded by lovely rewards.

As I enter the “final quarter of the game,” I am at peace with “No hell below us, above us only sky.”
