LAKEPORT — Rich Schramm Jr. quickly moved up to second place behind race leader David Aceves in the mini-stock main event before making the winning pass Saturday night at the Lakeport Speedway in Lakeport.

Schramm Jr. lapped nearly everyone in the field before taking the checkered flag. James Stillman Jr. ended up in second place.

In the bandoleros main event, Colby Furia and Frankie Pickrell battled nearly the entire race before Pickrell edged out Furia for the win.

In the modified main event, Steve Taylor grabbed the early lead. A hard-charging David Lyndall was working his way up through the field until he made contact with Mike Smithhart”s car, which brought out the first yellow flag of the evening. On the restart, Kyle Tellstrom bolted past Taylor and never looked back as he went on to take the win. Lyndall ended up second.

The Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino boat races brought many new drivers to the track as well as some veterans. A spirited battle between Ryan Magoo and Smithhart developed and the fans voted Magoo the winner.

The next boat race takes place Sept. 15 during the Marlene Baker Memorial Bomber Bash 12.

The auto racing scheduled to take place this coming weekend at Lakeport Speedway has been canceled because of the Wye and Walker fires burning in the eastern part of the county. Firefighters are using the Lake County Fairgrounds, home of the speedway, as their base camp.

The next round of racing is Aug. 25 at the Ukiah Speedway. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. and racing begins at 5 p.m. Visit www.ukiahspeedway.com for more information.
