LAKE COUNTY — Fire crews continued to make progress containing the Wye Fire Thursday.
The fire is now 85-percent contained, scorching about 8,000 acres since Sunday, according to CAL FIRE.
More than 750 firefighters from 24 fire crews are still assigned to the fire area, along Highway 20 east of Highway 53. Two structures and one outbuilding were destroyed in the fire, with two buildings damaged. Three injuries were reported, though not specified.
Highway 20 is open to traffic in both directions between Highway 53 and Interstate 5 with a strict 45 mph speed limit being enforced by the California Highway Patrol.
All evacuation orders were lifted as of Wednesday.
CAL FIRE merged the separate Wye Fire and Walker Fire into one incident Monday. Both fires broke out within minutes of each other along Highway 20. The causes are still under investigation.
The Wye Fire began near the “Y” intersection of highways 20 and 53 near Clearlake Oaks and spread east toward Spring Valley. The Walker Fire began near the intersection of Highway 20 and Walker Ridge Road.
