LAKEPORT — City police are investigating incidents of men in a white SUV allegedly trying to lure a teenager and a woman into the vehicle Monday afternoon.

Officers believe the two situations are related, according to Sgt. Kevin Odom of the Lakeport Police Department (LPD).

The LPD reported early Tuesday that an unknown male passenger in a white mid-sized SUV “solicited and attempted to lure” a 17-year-old girl in the parking lot of Westamerica Bank on South Main Street at 1:55 p.m. Monday.

Odom stated Tuesday afternoon that the department received a report of a similar incident occurring earlier Monday afternoon.

A 20-year-old woman told the LPD Tuesday morning that two men in a newer model white SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer, “offered her money to get into their vehicle” near Second and Park streets about 1:30 p.m. Monday, Odom stated.

The teenager and woman provided similar descriptions of the alleged culprits.

The teenager described the passenger as a white man, 50 to 60 years old, with white/gray hair near the top of his ear coupled with a gray/white short beard and mustache, according to the LPD. The driver was described as a white man, 50 to 60 years old, with short gray/white hair and possibly reading glasses.

The woman said the passenger was a heavy set “older white male” with gray hair, a beard, red face and white T-shirt, according to the LPD. The driver was described as “an older white male” with gray hair, white T-shirt, ball cap and glasses.

A citizen reported seeing a suspicious white SUV with two men inside parked in the area of Lange Street and Lakeshore Boulevard near where children were being picked up around 11:30 a.m. Monday, Odom stated.

Anyone with information about the incidents should contact LPD Officer Gary Basor 263-5491.
