CLEARLAKE — City Police responded Tuesday night to a reported disturbance that involved a Lake County supervisor.
Clearlake Police Department (CPD) officers went to 3747 Buckeye St. about 9 p.m. Tuesday and contacted Robert Sanders, 55, of Clearlake and Rob Brown, 52, of Kelseyville.
According to CPD Lt. Tim Celli, Brown stated he went to the residence to serve civil paperwork regarding the property.
During the service of the paperwork, a confrontation between the two men ensued, with both men telling officers they were assaulted by one another, according to Celli.
Both men initially declined to press charges; however, Celli said that Sanders changed his mind.
Celli said the investigation is ongoing, though initial reports were submitted to the Lake County District Attorney”s Office for review.
According to Brown, Sanders posted bail for his son, Christopher Sanders, through Brown”s bail bond company four years ago and Sanders allegedly had not paid back the $20,000 bond.
Brown said he tried to collect the debt many times to no avail. He said the property owner declared bankruptcy this year and the property eventually was turned over to Brown.
Brown said the letter he delivered was intended to arrange an inspection of the property for Friday or a time convenient for Sanders.
“My intention was to see if they wanted to buy it back or see if they wanted to rent it and stay,” Brown said.
Brown said Sanders was upset and alleged Sanders grabbed his arm and spun him around. Brown said he struck Sanders in the jaw in self-defense.
Brown said he expected District Attorney Don Anderson to declare a conflict of interest and the matter would be forwarded to the State Attorney General”s Office for independent review.
Lake County Publishing was unable to reach Sanders as of presstime Wednesday.
