UPPER LAKE — Jenny Tena scored twice and teammates Cinthya Madrigal and Betzy Rowland added goals to lift the Lower Lake Trojans to a season-opening 4-2 win over the Upper Lake Cougars in a non-league varsity girls” soccer game Wednesday in Upper Lake.
“We did awesome,” Lower Lake coach Robynn Giese said. “That”s the best I”ve seen my team play.”
Coming off a tough 2011 season, the Trojans played well in their 2012 opener, getting two goals in each half. They led 2-1 after the first half.
Kristen Celli, a freshman, made the start at keeper for Lower Lake and turned in a strong effort, according to Giese, who was without starting keeper Laura Onate.
Upper Lake scoring was not reported.
The Trojans aren”t scheduled to play again until Sept. 4 at home against Upper Lake. The Cougars are home Wednesday to play Kelseyville at 4:30 p.m.
