CALISTOGA — Rosie Emerson scored three goals in her first high school game and three other Middletown High School freshmen also shined as the Mustangs defeated Calistoga 7-1 in non-league varsity girls” soccer action on Wednesday in Calistoga.
It was the season opener for the Mustangs (1-0), who got their first four goals from freshmen. A pair of goals by Emerson and another by Kaleigh Alves gave Middletown a 3-1 lead at the end of one half.
Taylor Montelli scored the first of four Middletown goals in the second half to make it 4-1.
Another freshman, Ashlyn Welton, assisted on Emerson”s first goal.
“The freshmen were the shining element today,” Middletown coach Lee Hoage said. “We got a lot of people into the mix. It was a pretty solid all-around game.”
Emily Reed scored in the 63rd minute to make it 5-1, Emerson tallied her third and final goal a few minutes later to make it 6-1, and Hannah Diaz added an insurance goal later in the half.
Besides Welton, Diaz, Alicia Solomon and Kelly Wilkinson had assists for the Mustangs.
