Proceedings postponed

MISS: A judge rescheduled pretrial proceedings for Alejandro A. Arias on Monday. It was the most recent in a slew of continuances during the lead-up to trial. The three-year anniversary of the fatal crash for which Arias is charged with causing will take place next month.

HIT: The Oct. 24 trial date remains in place, for now.

Cultivation regulation

HIT: The Lake County Board of Supervisors voted to extend the interim urgency medical marijuana cultivation ordinance for 22 months and 15 days.

HIT: Community Development Director Rick Coel said he plans to place a permanent cultivation ordinance before the BOS within six months.

HIT: Crews contained the Wye Fire Saturday after it burned nearly 8,000 acres. Thank you fire personnel!

HIT: CAL FIRE reported only two homes and one outbuilding were destroyed. Two other homes were damaged. Three minor injuries occurred.

HIT: Red Cross volunteers mobilized to provide needed services to disaster victims.

HIT: State Department of Fish and Game officials said most wildlife was safe from harm during the Wye Fire incident.

HIT: Nick Bracisco sprung into action saving a man and his two dogs from a fire last Saturday in Middletown.

MISS: Multiple wildfires continue to ravage Northern California, with occasional smoke and haze billowing into Lake County.

Council supports improvements

HIT: The Lakeport City Council unanimously approved a mitigated negative declaration for 10 proposed water and sewer projects Tuesday.

MISS: The public discussion served as the latest site for contention between city and county officials. The council rebuffed scathing criticisms by deputy county administrative officer Alan Flora, who questioned the environmental analysis.

Gazebo renovations

HIT: The Lakeport council approved a request from the Lakeport Rotary Club to renovate the gazebo in Library Park. Improvements could include repainting to the original color scheme and repairing iron railings as well as some of the wood.

Supervisor in confrontation

MISS: Supervisor Rob Brown was involved in a confrontation with a Clearlake man Tuesday regarding a property dispute.

MISS: Both men claim they were assaulted in the confrontation.

Gift of music

HIT: Generous contributions by fans of Cheating Daylight will enable nearly 70 Lake County foster youth to attend the Saturday performance at the Soper Reese Community Theatre.
