UPPER LAKE — South Fork spoiled Upper Lake High School”s season opener in volleyball Friday night, beating the host Cougars 25-16, 16-25, 25-9, 25-14 in a non-league varsity match at Upper Lake.
“We had a lot of errors at the net, a bunch of service errors … early season stuff,” Upper Lake coach Sandy Coatney said.
The Cougars looked good at times, namely in the second game, when Ashley Lovrin and Carissa Morton reeled off a number of points at the service line. Samantha Maddock led the team with four kills.
“Honestly I thought the girls handed it well,” Coatney said of the match. “We”ve got a lot of things to work on and we will.”
Upper Lake scrimmages today in Middletown and plays at Fort Bragg on Thursday.
