OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Talk about making a good first impression.

Mary Brown, a 2012 Kelseyville High graduate now attending Baylor University in Texas on an equestrian scholarship, is off to a good start for the Division I Bears.

During the week of Aug. 6-11, Brown secured Reserve World Champion honors at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association Western Horsemanship World Championship in Oklahoma City, riding Zippos Petite Prince (better known as Winston) to a second-place finish.

In fact, Baylor riders, led by Brown, finished second, third and fourth in the competition. Brown”s Baylor teammates, Parris Rice and Gillian Chant, placed third and fourth, respectively, at the event, won by Lacy Lynn Watson of Goshen, Ohio.

Mary is the daughter of Mike and Toni Brown of Kelseyville.
