COVELO — The North Pass Fire located northeast of Covelo grew to 31,650 acres and was 32 percent contained as of Monday morning.
Lightning started the blaze Aug. 18 about 2:45 a.m., according to CAL FIRE.
Fire crews anticipate that during the next two days the fire will spread north toward Georges Valley and Soldier Ridge as well as northeast toward Uhl Peak, Buck Rock and Little Buck Rock, according to CAL FIRE. Its eastward progression is toward Anthony Peak.
Mandatory evacuation orders remain in place for portions of Indian Dick Road, Blands Cove Road and Mendocino Pass Road.
More than 1,700 fire personnel were assigned to the fire on Monday.
An air quality alert was issued for the Covelo and Round Valley areas Monday. Smoke levels there are considered hazardous under state and federal air quality standards.
